From Shoreditch to Studio: My Experience at the Mixa Launch

Mixa Cream from L'Oreal UK Product launch

A quiet moment in the studio following the Mixa launch - exploring texture, light and the simplicity of skincare.

On Thursday, 16th April, I was invited to attend the Mixa launch in Shoreditch, London — a day that felt as thoughtful and considered as the products themselves.

Mixa is a French skincare brand that began in pharmacies back in 1924, originally created for sensitive skin. That heritage really comes through in their approach — simple, effective formulations focused on restoring and supporting the skin barrier, rather than overcomplicating it.

The event itself was incredibly insightful. We were guided through the science behind the products by a dermatologist, who spoke not just about the creams, but about skincare more broadly — from the importance of hydration to daily SPF and how to properly support your skin over time.

What I really appreciated was how interactive the experience was. After the consultation, we were each given a personalised “prescription” for the most suitable product for our skin, which we then took to a counter where the cream was prepared and beautifully finished with our names hand-calligraphed onto the pot. It felt personal, considered, and quietly luxurious in a very understated way.

Since then, I’ve been testing the Niacinamide Bright cream, and what stands out most is how gentle it is. It’s designed for use across the face, hands and body, which speaks to how soft and non-irritating the formula is. The texture is lightweight but deeply moisturising — the kind of product you find yourself reaching for without thinking.

There’s a calmness to it. No heaviness, no over-fragrance — just skin that feels comfortable, hydrated and balanced.

Another thing that genuinely surprised me is the price point. For something that feels so considered and effective, it’s refreshingly accessible — very much in line with that French pharmacy philosophy of good skincare being something you can use every day, not just occasionally.

I left the day feeling inspired — not just by the products, but by the approach behind them. It’s always interesting to step into a brand’s world and translate that into a piece of editorial product photography - and this felt grounded, intelligent, and quietly confident.

Naturally, I couldn’t wait to translate that into a visual. The shoot that followed was my way of exploring that clinical, minimal aesthetic — focusing on texture, light and simplicity, and letting the product speak for itself.

A considered product, a thoughtful experience, and a reminder that sometimes, less really is more when it comes to skincare.

Thank you to the Mixa team for the invitation — it was a genuinely insightful and beautifully put together experience.
