When a PR Package Turns Into a Creative Shoot
This project began with a gifted PR package from Garnier.
Photographing a Garnier Vitamin C Concept
A few days ago I received a small PR package from Garnier containing their Vitamin C skincare range. Like most photographers, I immediately found myself looking at the packaging not just as a product, but as a visual starting point.
Whenever something new arrives that sparks an idea, I tend to approach it the same way I would approach an editorial assignment. I begin to think about colour, texture, light and mood — how the product might sit within a scene rather than simply being photographed on a table.
The bright yellow tones of the Vitamin C range instantly suggested something fresh and luminous. I wanted to create an image that felt clean, vibrant and full of light, while still keeping the composition minimal and elegant.
What began as a simple PR delivery slowly evolved into a full creative exercise. I spent the day experimenting with lighting, refining the set-up and carefully photographing the scene until the balance felt right.
For me, product photography works best when it feels less like advertising and more like visual storytelling. Even a single object can become part of a carefully composed moment when light, colour and texture come together.
The final image was designed to capture that feeling of radiance and freshness — something that reflects the spirit of the product itself while still remaining true to my own photographic style.
Behind the Scenes
The set was intentionally kept minimal so the focus stayed on the product and the light. Clean backgrounds and soft shadows helped create a sense of simplicity while still allowing the colour of the packaging to stand out.
I spent time adjusting the light until the glow felt natural rather than overly dramatic. With skincare imagery, subtlety is important — the photograph should feel bright and polished without losing a sense of realism.
Like many creative shoots, it also had an unexpected assistant. At one point my cat Cleo decided the backdrop looked like the perfect place to lie down, which briefly turned the studio into her personal stage.
A Creative Reflection
Even small creative exercises like this are a reminder of how much I enjoy exploring visual ideas through photography. Whether working on editorial portraits, personal projects or product concepts, the process always begins the same way — with curiosity and light.
