The Final Blooms: Rose and Cherry Blossom
In my last blog, I said that I would be sharing the Rose Collection next.
However, as I began looking back through the Botanical Collection as a whole, I realised there were four concept boards still waiting to be shared: two inspired by the timeless beauty of roses and two by the more fleeting beauty of cherry blossom.
Rather than continuing to reveal them separately, I wanted to bring them together for this final chapter.
Although roses and cherry blossom are very different flowers, they seem to complement one another beautifully. One is layered, romantic and enduring; the other is light, delicate and here for only a brief moment. Together, they feel like a fitting way to bring this creative journey to a close.
The Rose Collection
I have always loved roses.
There is something about the way their petals unfold, layer upon layer, that feels naturally suited to jewellery. They are soft and romantic, yet their structure is wonderfully intricate. Even a single rose can contain so many different shapes, shadows and subtle variations of colour.
For these concepts, I was inspired by roses in gentle shades of blush, cream and antique pink. I wanted the designs to feel elegant and timeless, with just enough colour to reveal the detail within each petal.
The Rose Blossom Brooch became the central piece. Its layered form allowed me to explore more depth and texture than in the earlier botanical concepts, while the gold-finish edges helped to define the shape of each individual petal. At its centre, natural diamonds add a small point of light without taking attention away from the flower itself.
From there, the rose was reimagined as earrings, a pendant and a bracelet. Each piece carries the same layered quality, but on a smaller scale, creating a collection that feels romantic without becoming overly ornate.
Perhaps more than any of the other flowers I explored, the rose already seemed to possess the character of a piece of jewellery. My task was not to completely reinvent it, but to imagine how its natural beauty could be preserved and worn.
THE Cherry Blossom Collection
The Cherry blossom brought a very different feeling to the project.
Unlike the fullness of the rose, cherry blossom feels almost weightless. Its beauty lies partly in the fact that it does not remain for long. The trees bloom, briefly transform the landscape, and then the petals begin to fall.
That fleeting quality became an important part of these designs.
The Cherry Blossom Brooch is lighter and more open in its form, with five softly shaped petals finished in white enamel and outlined in gold. The diamond centre is surrounded by delicate golden details inspired by the fine stamens of the flower.
The accompanying earrings, pendant and bracelet continue that sense of lightness. I especially love the bracelet, where several blossoms are placed along a fine chain, as though they have just fallen from a flowering branch.
Where the Rose Collection feels rich and romantic, the Cherry Blossom Collection feels fresh and hopeful. It speaks of spring, new beginnings and those beautiful moments we know cannot last forever—which is perhaps what makes us appreciate them even more.
Looking Back at the Collection
When I first photographed the hydrangea that started this journey, I had no idea it would lead me here.
The Botanical Collection was never created as a formal jewellery range ready for production. It has been a personal creative exploration—an opportunity to see what might happen when my photography, love of flowers, interest in design and visual storytelling were allowed to meet.
Each flower brought something different.
The hydrangea encouraged me to notice intricate detail and gentle changes in colour. The daisy reminded me of the beauty found in simplicity. The rose introduced depth, romance and layers, while cherry blossom brought delicacy and the idea of appreciating something precisely because it is fleeting.
Seeing all the concept boards together has made me realise that the collection is not only about flowers or jewellery. It is also about observation. It is about taking the time to look closely at something familiar and allowing your imagination to take it somewhere new.
Bringing the rose and cherry blossom concepts together feels like a natural way to complete the Botanical Collection.
What began with one hydrangea photograph has grown into something I never planned, and that is exactly what has made the journey so enjoyable.
Sometimes the most interesting ideas begin without a clear destination.
They simply need the freedom to bloom.
